Plastic Processing Screw Barrel Technology Center

The core plasticizing component of every plastic processing machine

The screw and barrel assembly is the heart of the plasticizing system. Its geometry, metallurgy and surface treatment directly determine how polymer is conveyed, melted, mixed and metered. A correctly engineered screw barrel is the difference between a stable, efficient process and chronic quality problems.

  • Melting Quality

Controlled thermal and shear input produces a homogeneous melt free of unmelts.

  • Mixing Performance

Distributive and dispersive elements determine colour and additive dispersion.

  • Output Stability

Correct channel depth and compression eliminate surging and pressure fluctuation.

  • Energy Efficiency

Optimised geometry reduces specific energy consumption per kilogram of output.

  • Product Quality

Consistent plasticizing translates directly into dimensional and surface quality.

Screw Barrel Materials & Surface Treatment

Material selection determines wear resistance, service life and corrosion resistance

Every screw barrel is specified with a defined base material and surface treatment matched to the polymer, filler content and processing temperature. The correct combination extends service life by several times compared with a generic specification.

Common technical questions answered by our engineers

A screw barrel is the plasticizing unit of a plastic processing machine. The rotating screw conveys polymer granules forward inside a heated barrel, where shear and conduction melt the material before it is metered into the mold or die. Its geometry and metallurgy determine melt quality, output and energy consumption.
